Changes Ahead

We've made changes to the Snooker Room

It was a difficult decision to make but sadly BPRCVS took the step in January to close the Snooker Room.  Although it had been popular with four young men who played on Wednesday afternoons, that was the only time it was used. BPRCVS didn’t take the decision lightly and consulted with Gannow Snooker Group prior to closing the facility. The young men now have a game of pool and their breakfast at the centre on Wednesday mornings.

What has happened to the table, you ask? BPRCVS offered it to various organisations and finally it was decided to donate to the Gateway Project, Calico Homes in Burnley.

The facility offers hope somewhere warm and secure to people going through difficult times. Paul Lavallis, Complex Needs Housing Officer at Calico said, ‘The table has made a huge difference since it was installed. It helps to bring people together over a frame or two. People who were previously not engaging with residents are now feeling the benefit. Thank you BPRCVS and Gannow Snooker Group.’

Gannow Community Centre Coordinator, Alan Barnes, along with Business Apprentice, Alex Martindale, visited Gateway in February to speak with residents and watch as they played a few frames. Alan and Alex were thanked by the residents for the kind donation.

Note of thanks: Pamela and Maureen would like to thank BPRCVS for the plaque displayed on the Snooker Room, in memory of their late partners, Bob Bond and Derek Thornton, founder members of Gannow Snooker Group. Pamela who is also a member of Gannow Big Local said, ‘It was a lovely gesture and very much appreciated.’

What happens next?

BPRCVS is keeping the name of the Snooker Room in memory of Bob Bond and Derek Thornton. It will now be mainly used for wellness and holistic therapy sessions. It has already attracted a year’s worth of bookings for Reiki training, mediumship, mindfulness and meditation sessions. For total relaxation there are even gong and sound bath sessions!
