Gannow Christmas Party Report

Everyone had lots of festive fun!

Gannow Big Local members wanted to help residents celebrate Christmas this year by funding a party in partnership with BPRCVS at Gannow Community Centre on 24th November 2018. It was decided by a working group to make the event short at 2 hours and have set times for Father Christmas and children’s activities.

The event was a success with approximately 200 people attending throughout the afternoon and 120 advent calendars were given out by Father and Mother Christmas (and their elf) in Santa's Grotto.

Here are some thoughts about the party from the residents and others in attendance:

‘My kids loved it’ – Vicky (group leader at GCC)

‘This is great – the kids have had a great time’ – Iris and family (resident)

‘Can we have one of these every year?’ – Morgan (resident, aged 10)

The event made £470.58 in total which will go into Gannow Community Centre funds:

£268.00 Tombola

£117 Food and refreshments

£85.00 Other stalls

Last year at the inaugural Gannow Christmas party we ran a couple of competitions that proved to be a huge success. That's why we had even more competitions running this year. The winners of the competitions were:

Guess the weight of the Christmas cake: Kayden

Guess the number of sweets in a jar: Jemima Procter

Guess the name of the gorilla (George): Caroline

Guess the name of the teddy (Paddington): Beatrice

Spot the cracker: Joint 1st Prize; Jenny Long and Allison Lindgren, 2nd Prize; Joan

Christmas cake raffle: Kelly Noone

BPRCVS and Gannow Big Local couldn’t have done it without our volunteers and the kind donations from:

Councillor Charles Briggs, Mayor of Burnley donated 2 x £25 McDonalds Vouchers

Asda

Farmfoods

Wilkinsons

B & M Bargains

John Dodds, who provided 2 lovely Christmas cakes

John and Kath Procter, Father and Mother Christmas

Jemima Procter, Elf

Marilyn Starkie, BPRCVS reception volunteer who telephoned businesses in Burnley asking for donations and then collected them all

Singing for Lung Health – Choir based at Padiham Methodist Church

Burnley Wood Community Centre for the loan of the grotto and various other items of equipment

Sham and Lisa, BPRCVS kitchen volunteers who kept everyone fed and watered

Clare Delargey, Behavioural Insights Team – helped out on a stall at short notice

Tony, BPRCVS Young Carer’s Volunteer – helped out on a stall at short notice

Staff of BPRCVS

And last but by no means least, Gannow Big Local Partnership members and the residents of Gannow

A huge thank you to everyone!
