A Community Cuppa Changes Lives

Show your support for Macmillan & Willow Foundation

Later this September Gannow Community Centre on Adamson Street, Burnley is hosting a couple of charity events aimed at raising vital funds to support Macmillan and Willow Foundation.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 28th September 2018 is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people suffering with cancer. Macmillan invites people from all around the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings with any donations received on the day made to Macmillan. Together we can make this another successful year; over £27 million was raised last year alone.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea; guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective Macmillan did it again the following year with a nationwide rollout. Since then, Macmillan Coffee Mornings have raised over £200 million.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate and can affect people’s whole lives – health, money, family, job; everything. Macmillan has spent more than 100 years caring about people with cancer. They treat people as individuals, not patients. Macmillan understands the support people need to live their lives as fully as they can. From the moment of diagnosis and whenever they’re most needed, Macmillan is there to help people find their best way through. Macmillan’s help is totally focused on each individual person, so everyone receives the support that’s best for them.

Gannow Big Local, a partnership of local residents in the Gannow community, has organised, with the support of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service, a Macmillan Coffee Morning on 21st September 2018. Let’s change lives together at Gannow. Come on round to the centre for a cuppa and donate to Macmillan. Tea, coffee and some delicious, tasty treats are calling out for your donations. The Coffee Morning gets underway at 10am and runs until 12 noon.

One in two of us will face cancer, and the money you raise at the Gannow Big Local Coffee Morning will help us make sure no one has to face it alone.

The following week BPRCVS has organised Take Time For Tea in support of Willow Foundation.

Take Time for Friends, Take Time for Family. Take Time for Special Days.

Willow Foundation believes every day should be treated as precious. For those living with serious illness, spending time with your loved ones is all that matters.

Willow Foundation is a UK charity formed by Bob Wilson, former Arsenal and Scotland goalkeeper and later a broadcaster, and his wife, Megs. Willow Foundation was started as a result of the sad death of their daughter, Anna, who sadly passed away shortly before her 32nd birthday after a 5 year battle with a very rare form of cancer. During these 5 years Anna and her parents enjoyed as many special days as possible.

Bob Wilson and his wife focused on providing the kind of 'special days' which had sustained Anna, for 16 to 40-year-olds with life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses. Now, 18 years on, their Willow Foundation arranges 1,400 special days a year, raising £2.5million annually to do so, with no statutory support.

Come on down to Gannow Community Centre from 10am until 2pm on Friday 28th September and enjoy a cuppa that makes a difference. Show your support for Willow Foundation by generously donating. We’ve got loads of tasty cakes and treats for you to wash down with a cuppa. There’s even going to be a raffle on the day with some fabulous prizes.

Show your support for these fantastic causes and help both BPRCVS and Gannow Big Local raise lots of money. Any contribution you can make has a significant impact upon the lives of others.
