BPRCVS Covid-19 Service Update

Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service remains open for business as usual although our centres and offices are now closed to the public in line with UK Government advice.

The VCF sector is obviously taking a substantial hit at the moment and we are seeing many groups and organisations being forced to cancel or postpone their projects and services, activities, events and regular local groups.

Coronavirus Response

BPRCVS are working in partnership with the three local community hubs and other organisations to deliver a response in the communities of Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. On a daily basis we receive referrals from Burnley Together, Pendle Community Support Hub and Rossendale Connected. Referrals include helping people with shopping, delivering food parcels, collecting and delivering prescriptions - including veterinary prescriptions, befriending, mental health support, family support, dog walking and people suffering from extreme hardship and difficulty.

Staff have been redeployed into new roles and with the support of a huge number of volunteers we are providing a much needed support service to the residents of local communities.

Usual Projects & Services

Here are the details about all of BPRCVS' projects and services that have been affected by Coronavirus outbreak:

Group Support - If groups are still wanting support our staff are available to deliver, but this will not likely be in the form of a face-to-face meeting until further notice.

Group Meetings & Events - All group meetings and events have been postponed until further notice. Where projects deliver support sessions to groups of persons these will be replaced with 1-1s instead.

Social Prescribing Team - The team is still working and operational however we won't be doing home visits until further notice. We will complete initial assessments over the phone and provide support over the phone for the foreseeable future. Please be assured that we will remain committed to delivering an excellent service and providing support as appropriate on a client-by-client basis.

Cliviger Community Benefit Fund - This fund opened on 1st May and will close for applications on 1st June 2020.

Eric Wright Charitable Trust Small Grants Programme - This fund has reopened for applications to help groups who are wanting to support people during the Coronavirus crisis.

East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group Prescription For Wellbeing Funding Programme - The remaining funds available for Rossendale groups has been suspended until further notice. All current funded projects have been asked to close their projects by 20th March 2020 and to submit their final reports by the end of April 2020. All funded groups will have received an email explaining the circumstances and the next steps to follow.

Funding Support - While the above funds may have been repurposed or suspended during the pandemic, BPRCVS is still able to offer funding support to community groups, voluntary organisations, faith groups, and small charities. We have published a wide range of funding opportunities on the Coronavirus News page , Twitter and Facebook

Communicars - Due to the nature of our volunteer drivers being predominantly within the 'at risk' group of people, many have taken the understandable decision to self-isolate. As such Communicars is still endeavouring to provide a service to those who need it. Please continue to book Communicars as normal and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.

Minibus - Due to social distancing regulation we are not able to operate our minibus at present.

Gannow Community Centre - The latest Government advice is to close community centres so we have followed that decision by closing the centre to the public. We will still have staff working from there to continue delivering the food share programme.

Gannow Community Centre Food Share - The food share scheme is still open as normal. The same process applies. It operates on a first come, first served basis and there is a short form to fill in at the centre. For more information on the food share please call 01282 436396 and ask for Alan Barnes. The centre also has some sanitary provisions too.

Training - Any planned training events have had to be cancelled until further notice. For any volunteers joining BPRCVS to help out during these challenging times you will be directed to online training to ensure you have the latest up-to-date knowledge before commencing your volunteer journey.

DBS - Our DBS service is still fully operational. So is our free DBS scheme in partnership with Our Lancashire. Now is the perfect time to make the most of it.

Volunteer Centre - Our focus has been understandably on recruiting volunteers that wish to help out during the pandemic. Many groups and organisations who offer volunteering opportunities have closed or have redeployed volunteers to help with other roles. Our NCVO Accredited Volunteer Centre is still open for business as usual so if your group or organisation has volunteering needs get in touch and we can help.

Media & Communication - If your group/organisation has anything that you would like BPRCVS to promote on your behalf we are still able to do so. Check out the BPRCVS Facebook page for plenty of content around advice, support, projects and services including food and prescription services, activities to do in isolation and much more. We've created a Coronavirus News page where you can access the same and similar information. Read case studies about Covid-19 response and check out the acts of kindness throughout the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale communities.

Children & Families Department - Face-to-face meetings have been postponed, but the department's projects are still providing support over the phone, email and other forms of technology. Check out their Facebook page for a load of great and useful content.

Room Hire - As our centres and offices are closed to the public we are unable to accommodate any room booking requests until further notice.

All other projects and services are operating as normal where possible. All of our offices and centres are now closed to the public. We appreciate your understanding during these challenging circumstances.
