Syrian Refugee Pamper Day

Practicing conversational English while being pampered

On Thursday 25th July the Banyan Wellness Centre in Burnley held an open day event at their premises.

Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale CVS invited some of the women and their older daughters from the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Program to come along for free manicures and refreshments.

This was a great opportunity for them to practice speaking to the staff and having informal conversations in English. The ladies really enjoyed the session and for some this was their first manicure since fleeing Syria. Events like these really help them get to know more about Burnley and practice conversational English.

Earlier in the month the 8 female Burnley ESOL students did their first session on the morning of 11th July on cake decorating. The session lasted for 2 hours.

In the afternoon the ladies wrote about it in their ESOL class.
