BPRCVS On Capital Radio

Integrating refugees into communities

On Friday 26th April 2019 BPRCVS attended the Leisure Box in Brierfield to support Syrian refugees from Burnley. For a few months now the Burnley based Syrian men have been taking part in football sessions hosted by Burnley FC in the Community. Recently the sessions have been opened up to the male refugees in Rossendale too.

Capital Lancashire heard about the good work and valued support of Syrian refugees in Burnley and wanted to come along to the football sessions to interview BPRCVS' ESOL Coordinator, Allison Lindgren along with Michael Colqhoun, BFCitC, and the refugees.

The interview was about how BPRCVS work with and support Syrian families, their ability to integrate into communities and how they have settled into their new surroundings. Ousama talked about his experiences since relocating from Syria. He spoke in English about how good the support has been, what it's like in Burnley and how he and his fellow refugees enjoy playing football every week.

The reporter was taken aback at the positivity of the refugees and was also impressed at how good Ousama's English was. She left feeling uplifted and passed several comments about how great this story was and the work being done to support the refugees.
