BPRCVS Trustee Jackie Oakes

BPRCVS Trustee

I moved to Rossendale from Manchester in 2002 to run Stacksteads Post Office. I became a Rossendale Borough Councillor in 2010, and I was nominated as an elected representative to BPRCVS. I have been involved with voluntary organisations for many years, and was very pleased to have the opportunity to understand the ‘behind the scenes’ work involved in ensuring that smaller groups are represented in discussions with influential bodies and at a national level.

In 2017 I chose to become a Trustee representing Stacksteads Countryside Park Group, my local community group and a registered charity. I could then have voting rights and be more influential in forming the strategy of BPRCVS. I have recently been appointed as Chair of the Strategy Working Group and I look forward to helping to raise the profile of the organisation.

As a WASPI woman I still work full time and I currently have 4 part time jobs - as School Governing Body Advisor for Lancashire County Council, Office Manager for a small business in Bacup, Post Office counter assistant and Rossendale Borough Councillor where I am currently Portfolio Holder for Operations. I am fortunate that all these involve flexible hours and I am able to take an active role in local organisations including as a Trustee for Stacksteads Countryside Park Group and Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival Organisation.
