Susan has been involved with the Voluntary Sector since 1963 when she joined the Burnley Council for Social Service, now the Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service.

She is a Trustee of the CVS; a member of Common Purpose Lancashire Advisory Group; a member of Blackburn Cathedral Trust; a member of Lancashire Social Services Complaints Panel; President of 352 Burnley ATC Squadron and Vice-President of Lancashire Community Futures. 

She has just completed her 3-year tenure as Chairman of the CVS.  Formerly, she was a Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire; a Lay Member for the Mental Health Review Tribunal; a Magistrate; a Volunteer, Deputy Manager and Chairman of Pendle CAB and a Trustee of Community Futures of Lancashire.  She was also a member of Lancashire Probation Board; a member of The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund Panel and founder Chairman of The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.  During 2013-2014 she was the Blackburn Cathedral Royal Maundy Recipient Researcher and Co-ordinator.

She has received a number of awards including a Certificate for Meritorious Service to the Air Training Corps; a Lifetime Achievement Award from Pendle Borough Council Community Awards, and the MBE.

Her interests away from voluntary and community work include delivering art therapy to Hospice patients; church embroidery, genealogy and writing.
