I am interested in the health and wellbeing of older people; I am an active member of the Burnley Healthy Lifestyles (Up and Active) programme, subscribing to the “Clear” membership scheme. I volunteer at my local community centre, leading “Health Walks” and running a seated exercise class.
I have a particular interest in the availability of self help such as exercise classes, swimming groups, walking groups and men’s health, I also horse ride once a week and exercise my dog several times a day.
My first degree was in Health Studies (Health Promotion)
I have been a trustee of Burnley, Pendle & Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service for a number of years; I sit on the Property & Finance sub committee.
I am the Treasurer of a local Community Horse Riding Group. This has a turnover of £10K.
I enjoy reading historical novels and biographies, attending local exercise classes, solving crossword puzzles, horse riding, and walking my dog in my local park and moorland. moorland.
I was awarded an MBE in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List, for “Services to the community in Lancashire.
