Jackie Taylor BPRCVS Trustee

BPRCVS Trustee appointed by Civic Pride Rossendale

I became a trustee in October 2018.

In my working life I practised as an occupational therapist in mental health services in the North-West, before becoming a lecturer in occupational therapy. I worked as a senior lecturer for 25 years at Salford University, during which time I also developed a research career. I retired in 2015 though I continue to contribute to my profession by external examining and visiting other universities as an accreditor of occupational therapy programmes on behalf of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. I also do occasional guest lectures and training.

There is a direct link between my research interests and my wish to contribute to CVS. My doctorate explored the ways in which our everyday activities contribute to health and well-being through helping us to build our identities – we are what we do!

I also do voluntary work for Civic Pride Rossendale, helping to maintain a town centre garden that Civic Pride created from spare land and I manage the organisation’s social media profile, particularly on Facebook.

Previously I have been a lay member of the Examinations Committee of the Royal College of Pathologists (2012 – 2017).

I hope that I can bring some useful skills, an enquiring mind and a professional approach to the BPRCVS.

I believe that it is important to maintain a good balance of activities. Retirement enables me to spend some good quality time involved with friends and family, theatre, crochet, gardening and messing about on a narrowboat.
