Ann Mobey

Information & Administration Worker

Hello, I’m Ann Mobey and have been working at Carers Contact for over 3 years, initially on temporary basis to cover Karen’s leave, and then taken on permanently.  I love working at Carers Contact and the time has just flown by.  Sorry if you are yawning at this point, I am not very good at talking about myself, but please bear with me, it might get better.

I am part of the admin team and I have probably spoken to some of you on the telephone.  I am married with two children and we have a dog called Chico (named before the X-Factor Chico, honestly!).

I passed my driving test last year on the 4th or 5th attempt (all a blur).  This was much to the relief of my bank balance and family, apart from my son, who on the one occasion I drove him, he gripped the inside car door the entire journey.

To make myself sound really interesting I could say that my hobbies and interest are scuba diving, rock climbing and hand gliding but as I am frightened of heights and panic when water goes above my head, I have to admit that they are reading, arts and crafts.  Hope it wasn’t too boring.  Look forward to speaking to you soon.  Bye.

Beverley Jenkinson

Senior Carers Development Worker

Hi, my name is Beverley and I am the Senior Carers Development Workers at Carers Contact.  I joined in June 2009 – the same day as the lovely Graham so we celebrate our anniversary every year together.

I really enjoy working here as it’s a very positive and forward thinking place to work with supportive colleagues who are all committed to the cause as well as having a tremendous sense of fun.  Out of work I enjoy cooking, but I am no Nigella! Although, I have recently been baking a lot of bread having completed ‘a bread for beginners course’...I didn’t realise how easy it was.  I’ve been bringing samples into the office and to press I haven’t poisoned anyone.

I am also in the process of trying/attempting/struggling to train my beloved one year old Boxer dog, Daisy. Unfortunately she is not delicate like her namesake, but she has such a sweet nature and is very loving, sometimes a little too loving.  I also have 2 cats Lulu and Cindy; they are both big personalities in their own way but Cindy is the Boss, and even Daisy knows this!

I am a keen reader and am fairly obsessed with football, in particular Blackburn Rovers.  I recently managed to put my football knowledge to some use by having a fantasy football team which came fourth out of 45 in my friend’s mini league!

Billy Durrant

Carers Development Worker

I’m Billy Durrant and I started as a Carers Development Worker in November 2011.  As well as being new to Carers Contact, I am new to Lancashire.  I was born and raised on the right side of the hills in sunny West Yorkshire.  The language barrier is obviously an issue but so far I have managed without a translator.  I am gradually learning how to say words like ‘Barrowford’ in a way that local folk can understand.  One day I may even learn to appreciate Black Peas and Goosnargh Cakes, although I suspect that I will always prefer Yorkshire Puddings.

Outside of work, I am mad keen on cricket.  I don’t play anymore but I love watching, listening or following it on Ceefax, if I have to.  I am also a Huddersfield Town fan.  I’m looking forward to the possibility of trips to Burnley, Blackburn and Bolton next season rather than Rochdale and Bury.

Apart from sport, I enjoy gardening and try to grow as much fruit, veg and salad as I can in my garden in the Pennine hills. I love being outdoors generally, and drive my girlfriend mad by dragging her off camping come snow, frost or hail.  My other major passion is travel. I have backpacked my way around large parts of Europe and Asia and small bits of Africa, the Middle East and South America.

I am never happier than in the middle of nowhere, with a rucksack on my back and no clue as to where I am going to spend the night or what I am going to do tomorrow.

Clare Hobley

Carers Wellbeing Worker

My name is Clare and I started as Carers Development Worker in August 2012. I’ve recently returned to Burnley after living in Dublin for the past 7 years, so I’m delighted to be back in my home town.

One of the best things about being back in Burnley is reacquainting myself with the countryside again.  I really enjoy getting out and about and going for walks around the area. I love travelling and like getting to see a bit more of the world when time and money permit. I’m also passionate about cooking and baking, and I love to make food for my family and friends, especially vegetarian dishes.  I’m also a bit of a mad cat lady, and I have two male rescue cats that I’m utterly obsessed with named Billi and Ginjo.

I’m really excited about working with Carers Contact and I look forward to meeting more of you over the next few months.

Graham Walton

Carers Support & Activities Worker

Hello all!  My name is Graham Walton and I have been the Support & Activities Worker here at Carers Contact for just over 3 years now.  I actually started the same day at Beverley Jenkinson, but I was a little late on my first day as I was in a hot air balloon over Wrea Green.  Many of you will know who I am but for those who don’t...I organise all the activities that provide you, as a Carer, with a break.  As well as this, I provide support to Former Carers, whose caring role has come to an end, through a support group and various activities.

You will hopefully have noticed that I am the Editor of our wonderful magazine and a lot of work goes into creating it both by myself and other staff members so that you get the information that is important.  I have also been appointed as a Digital Champion through Carers UK too, which means that it is my role to get as many Carers using the internet as possible.

It’s a busy job and I love organising the activities and of course taking part.  My favourite ones are the Grub Clubs because I get to partake in my favourite hobby...eating!  My other hobbies include exercising (I have turned into a bit of a fitness nut with swimming, boxing classes, attending the gym a couple of times a week and the occasional run).  I love films, TV, reading and I am busy with my list of ‘40 Things To Do Before I’m 40’, one of which was indoor skydiving (picture on the right).  The latest of my ‘40 Things’ were, to self publish a short story and I’ve had laser eye surgery too so my vision is better than 20/20!
